Picture this.
During the rise of the far right in Germany in the 1930’s we learn that over two million indigenous people have been herded by fascists into a small but densely packed conurbation. The fascists hate the indigenous people therein and have claimed all the land of these people as their own. The fascists have surrounded the area, controlling everything that goes in and out, with full control over all basic services.
This city becomes in effect an open air concentration camp in which freedoms are suppressed, protests met with live ammunition and citizens arrested and imprisoned without charge. Children are amongst those imprisoned and we learn that they are being physically and sexually abused while detained.
This horrific situation is punctuated by savage bombing campaigns in which schools and refugee camps are bombed killing thousands of innocents. This savage oppression is not confronted or even named by any western power – but actively supported with weapons, political protection and sympathetic media coverage.
Over time a resistance network forms with many of the members having never known nothing outside of the brutal realities of the camp. One day there is a prison revolt in which the resistance fighters break into the surrounding countryside, killing many innocent Germans.
The fascists denounce ALL the inmates as human animals and vow to raze the city to the ground, turning off all water, food, fuel and electricity to the camp slowly starving everyone inside. In a prelude to Operation Punishment they carpet bomb the area with thousands killed and injured every day. As food and water run out, a holocaust unfolds, one that has been boasted about in plain sight.
Far from opposing this imminent genocide the western powers weep only for those killed in the prison revolt, offering their unequivocal support for the destruction of the rebels and raise only token opposition to the idea that an entire race can be erased as collateral damage to that end.
This is of course exactly where we are in 2023. Crypto-fascists have taken over the government of Israel and a long arc of apartheid, ethnic cleansing, illegal invasions and occupations is reaching its denouement in Gaza. The de facto erasure of the Palestinian nation and people is underway with warm support from the western powers.
The parallels with the fascist turn of the 1930’s are chilling. The victors history of WW2 was predictably generous towards the allied powers, but was it really fascism they feared in the late 1930’s or a strong Germany? Had it suited the geopolitical interest of the British Foreign Office and The White House in 1939 would they have opposed fascism or sent it weapons? See Netanyahu for details.
Empires are allergic to morality and indifferent to human suffering. The western empire of 2023 seems to be embracing Israeli fascism as a model for both foreign and domestic policy.
How different is the religious zealotry and nationalist extremism of the U.S. right and the Israeli right? No-one dares to oppose fascist demagogue Donald Trump in the Republican Party and Biden’s ‘new world order’ includes Zelensky’s desire to turn Ukraine into a ‘big Israel’ replete with neo-Nazi militias.
There is only token opposition to Israeli genocide in the British political /media mainstream with party political dissent being punished and moves afoot to ban ban any domestic protest which might ‘undermine’ (criticise) the establishment.
Suddenly it becomes obvious why it is verboten to draw the obvious parallels between Nazi Germany and Israel – for such comparisons would illuminate both western complicity with fascism and its remorseless drift towards it.
What becomes normalised in Palestine won’t stay confined there and this desperate fight to save both Palestine AND Israel from the horrors of fascism is our fight also.
At a recent march we chanted that “in our thousands, in our millions we are all Palestinians”.
If we in the west allow Israel to erase Palestine from the map then that refrain will become less a slogan…more a prophecy for us all.

Hitler was allowed to run amok because the west thought he would defeat Russia and therefore communism. Russia asked the west to open a second front but this was delayed by the allies for as long as possible. So your premise is correct. If he had not sought to invade the UK it is quite likely that the UK and US would have supported him.
