‘Pay Up Campaign’ targets heartless clothes retailers

Two months before the first anniversary of the catastrophic collapse of Rana Plaza in Bangladesh, Clean Clothes Campaign along with People & Planet, workers and trade unions have launched  a new movement called the Pay Up Campaign!

..

This aims to ensure that by April 24 the families of the  1,138 people who were killed and over 2,000 injured survivors wait no longer for compensation. Nearly all of these victims were garment workers who had been ordered that day to go back into the unsafe building by factory bosses.

It’s about time international brands such as Benetton, KiK or Children’s Place start making significant contributions in order to begin compensation payments. All of these brands have had orders in the five factories in Rana Plaza building.

$40 million or £24 million are required to compensate all those injured at the collapse. Fortunately brands such as El Corte Ingles, Mango or Inditex, have already publicly committed to the Donor Trust Fund.

The fund is open to all companies, donors and individuals who wish to express their solidarity and compassion.

Ten months after the worst industrial disaster in history to hit the garment industry, there can be no further excuses. Brands need to show that they can be part of the solution if they pay up now!
