Nothing is more dangerous to a society than when people give up hope on its institutions, for a fatalism takes over in which people lose all hope for truth, justice and the future. I am at that point this morning.
Joe Biden’s address last night was the most disgracefully immoral speech ever given by a U.S. president: in it Biden tried to justify an Israeli annexation of Gaza and the genocide that will surely precede it.
Israel has openly boasted of its planned holocaust for the Palestinians and the unified response of the west has been to unconditionally privilege Israeli victims of Hamas terrorism over Palestinian victims of Israeli genocide. Any and all opposition to this plan via international law, morality, truth and logic are all deemed irrelevant by Biden – we must comply.
Hiding behind blatant lies and gaslighting, the western political and media establishment is manufacturing consent for genocide in Gaza by setting the boundaries of acceptable debate in explicitly fascist terms thus: Israeli lives matter, Palestinian lives do not – Hamas atrocities are to be exposed, condemned and stopped but Israeli atrocities are to be covered up, applauded and supported.
Let us set the record straight (and this just is by no means a full accounting). Israel has:
* Imposed an illegal invasion, a brutal occupation and racist apartheid on Palestine
* Routinely arrested Palestinians without charge – with many prisoners (including children) physically and sexually abused.
* Murdered thousands of innocent civilians, most women and children in Gaza since October 7th – targeting refugee camps, mosques, schools and hospitals.
* Used sniper rifles to cowardly murder unarmed paramedics, journalists, peaceful protestors and children playing football.
* Illegally blockaded Gaza for 16 years making Gaza in effect one large concentration camp.
* Switched off the water, food, electricity and medical supplies to a population of 2.2 million people.
* Refused to allow the trapped civilian population of Gaza to escape into Israel for they want them to either die or flee to Egypt.
* Bombed the Rafah crossing into Egypt so as to prevent aid trucks from entering Gaza.
* Shot unarmed west bank Palestinians who protest against these horrors and is forcibly displacing them.
All this in plain sight of the international community which has either applauded, shrugged its shoulders or been unable to meaningfully oppose the U.S. weaponry shipped to Israel.
The importance of Israel to U.S. politicians and deep state is two-fold (beyond the merry profits of selling and testing weapons):
Firstly they must appease the powerful Israeli lobby in the U.S. and secondly defend their military bastion in the Middle East. In both of these goals the Palestinians are not merely in the way but a constant reminder of the western colonialism that set up and sustains Israel.
The remorseless post war decline of western society is now very close to its end point. Little now separates us from the fascist tyranny that our ancestors sacrificed so much to oppose. For those sitting comfortably and silently in western kitchens this morning I offer you this prediction and two old warnings.
By standing shoulder to shoulder with Israeli fascism and genocide, the west will light a firestorm of anger in the Middle East that will burn for centuries. Please spare me the weeping and wailing when terrorists bomb western cities for we will inevitably reap what we sow in Palestine in the end.
Heed also the words of Tony Benn and John Donne.
Tony Benn said:
“The way the government treats refugees is very instructive because it shows you how they would treat the rest of us if they thought they could get away with it.”
Once the fascist treatment of the Palestinians becomes acceptable then all immigrants, the poor and finally anyone who doesn’t quite fit the norm will be next.
If we bow the knee today then we have embraced fascism and as John Donne said:
