Trump is insane and a threat to every family in the world: he must be swiftly defeated

Donald Trump is a problem for the whole world. We should not discard the lessons of history and underestimate him. His temper tantrums and childish tweets are part of a plan that should be feared and swiftly defeated.  

Let us recall how we got to this point.

When this reality TV star learned that Gwen Stefani was earning more than him, he staged a fake run for president. By being so good at improvisation he figured he could wring a raise out of NBC. But Trump’s disastrous rants included racist smears against muslim immigrants and he was fired.

Trump went ahead with rallies already paid for and supporters flocked to his populist celebrity, american exceptionalism and thinly veiled racism.

How the media giggled at the idea of Trump being atop the Republican ticket – but he cultivated a huge base. They wanted an anti-establishment and anti-intellectual hero, someone outside of elite politics: a champion of right wing evangelical (overwhelmingly white) Christianity, a strong man to restore the swagger of American imperialism and to poke the politically correct in the eye. Trump delivered.

How certain the pundits were that Trump could not breach the electric fence that surrounded The White House – but he drove a bulldozer into office. 

A true narcissist like Trump has only one goal – himself. He cannot bear anything to be bigger than him. Appeasing narcissists never works because they are mentally ill: they consume everything and everyone around them to make space for themselves. Any evidence of their limits and imperfections is attacked to defend the fantasy of omnipotence. 

Trump feeds from the cultural narcissism of the American psyche. The demands of integrity are tossed aside in favour of gratification and ego. Trump inflames the divisions within U.S. society to devastating effect: now he has a chance to create what all narcissists crave – tyranny.

Trump cannot survive politically inside a civilised society – but can flourish in a ration wracked with racial strife. Of course he has built on what was already there. A latent but widespread fear of difference, systemic institutional racism and economic inequality that Obama made worse instead of better.

Black people are routinely assaulted and murdered by police officers. We have seen peaceful protestors attacked by a militarised police force that regard neighbourhoods as occupied territory. Journalists have been attacked and Trump has threatened to use troops against U.S. citizens.

A showdown is coming. Will a moral majority oppose the narcissistic delusions of Trump and his supporters? 

Hitler plunged a world into war and Trump is quite capable of doing the same. Race riots? Civil War? These are gifts for a man like Trump. A war with Iran? If it serves his purposes he will not hesitate to rally voters behind U.S. militarism: the dimmer his political prospects appear, the more likely he is to lash out.

Trump will not relinquish power if he loses the upcoming election anyway – he will simply declare the result illegitimate and urge his supporters to defend him. What then?

For a sizable chunk of his base, Trump is God’s champion on earth. The violent clearance of protestors to enable a church and bible photo was carefully calculated. Trump will do all he can to foment civil violence. How much of the army and police would side with Trump if he declines to accept electoral defeat?

George Bush supported the Soviet Union in its last days – because they feared that the USSR would become a ‘Yugoslavia with nukes’. If the U.S. fractures around its fault lines of race, religion and inequality, the President has 6,185 nuclear weapons at his command. Trump is insane and such a scenario should chill every family in the world.

Nobody should underestimate Trump. He is ruthless. He aches to be free of the meddlesome restraint of law and democracy. He should not be appeased for one second longer. Every activist, government and moral person must call Trump out for what he is – an insane fascist on the brink of a terrifying power grab. 

If Trump drags the U.S. into the abyss it will not end there – he will drag the entire world into war with him, a war that might be the end of all of us…  

…that is the only outcome that a true narcissist like Trump will ever be happy with.
