Don’t trust the Lib Dems – insist they rule out being Tory enablers before you give them your vote

Are we seriously going to get hoodwinked by the Lib Dems all over again? Have we forgotten that they propped up a Tory government for five years with votes cast as a protest AGAINST the Tories?

Have we forgotten that they gave us tuition fees, voted to break up the NHS and stood shoulder-to-shoulder with David Cameron, ideological allies in the ongoing transformation of the UK into a neoliberal nightmare?

Nick Clegg: In the trenches fighting the Tories…

What exactly are we expecting them to do this time around if they hold the balance of power? Tim Farron has already moved to rule out an alliance with the Greens and Labour – but is oddly silent on the prospect of an alliance with the Tories, I wonder why? It couldn’t be that he sees himself on TV in a nice suit, a chauffeur driven limousine parked under his backside on the way to embrace Theresa May could it?

Facebook is awash with advice on tactical voting to “get the tories out” with the Lib Dems heavily implicated – but if the Lib Dems are more interested with “getting the tories in” then exactly why are we being asked to vote for them?

If we are going to  simply trust (again) that the Lib Dems won’t jump into bed with the tories at the earliest opportunity… then frankly we are all idiots and we will richly deserve the right wing coalition we get.

If we are going to vote for the Lib Dems at all then we must insist on a personal guarantee FROM EACH AND EVERY CANDIDATE that they will not serve as enablers for a Tory government.

So I urge readers who are considering voting tactically for the Lib Dems to contact their candidate and insist that they rule out working with a tory government. If what you get back is evasive bullshit then you’ll know where you stand.

If Lib Dem candidates say that they won’t support a tory government, ask them what coalition they WOULD support, since the Lib Dems were quick to play the “stability in the interests of the nation” card as an excuse for cuddling the Tories in 2010.

The most important thing is – DON’T TRUST THE LIB DEMS – their Orange Book ideologies make them natural allies of the Conservative Party not of the Labour Party, The Green Party or any progressive political movement.

I still recall the day I watched with horror as Shirley Williams stood in front of a TV camera and defended the legislation that poisoned the NHS and plunged it into crisis.  She was one of the few politicians I had any time for in British politics and its not an exaggeration to say it broke my heart.

We must not let a single Lib Dem political hack crush our hopes like that again – we must go into this election as wise as serpents. Do not take these Facebook posts inviting us to back them at face value, where do they all come from?

This tactical voting scholck appeared suspiciously quickly, almost like an organisation had it all ready to go….some may be well intentioned – some may be mischievous.

Whatever the truth, don’t give your vote away to some cheap con trick – especially as it will be the same con trick the Lib Dems deployed in 2010.
